Goals, Purpose of Life, Growth etc.

Mystic miracle, daughter of Delight,
Life, thou ecstasy,
Let the radius of thy flight
Be eternity(Life: Sri Aurobindo)

The world is growing too fast since the invention of wheel till the use of smart phones. This process of growth will never end. We all want growth in our life. Being a common man I too dream for my growth. But due to lack of spiritual knowledge and wisdom, we are often in illusion thinking that possessing wealth, name, fame and all the material comforts are all about growth. We set goals and always a constant effort is going on to achieve these throughout the journey of life. Soon we get confused and think that our goals are our purpose of life!

I still remember when I was in high school standard; we had to write essays on some given topics. One very common topic was ‘Aim in Life’ which now I consider it as the ‘Purpose of Life’. We used to write our respective aim in life to be an Engineer, Doctor, Professor and so on.

After some years when I became an Engineer, I thought that life would much happier as I have achieved my aim in life. But soon I realize that I am searching other things in life. Then I understood that to be an Engineer cannot be my purpose of life. But the big questions arise in my mind are…. What are the goals? What is the purpose of life? And how Growth can be achieved through it?

Goals are merely our targets. Goals may vary from time to time. During school days our goals were different but as the time fly our goals change. Some of our goals we achieved and some of them cannot but irrespective of that, time and moments of life go on.

But the purpose of life is something different which we cannot achieve but to explore as we already have it. Sri Chinmoy rightly said…” Life is given to each human being for a very special purpose. This secret each human being must discover for himself.”  It can be well explained with a chain of pearls. Pearls in the chain are like our goals which come one after another and the thin thread which holds the beautiful pearls is nothing but like our purpose of life.

Purpose of life is the exploring of divinity within our self. It is the consciousness that we have the energy full of love, peace, bliss, power and knowledge which make us contented and happy. So it is very important to maintain our purpose throughout the journey while achieving our goals in every walk of life. Unless we care about the thread, the pearls will be scattered. If we care we will enjoy this beautiful journey of life and achieving goals will be much easier too. And if somehow we fail to achieve one goal, our conscience will help us to flow forward just like a river crossing all barriers and finally meet the ocean in the horizon.

But possessing merely wealth, name, fame etc ... is that a growth? Certainly not! Because after possessing all those things, yet our search for happiness will never end. Then what Growth is all about?

Nature always inspires and teaches us in many ways. We can get the real meaning of Growth from nature. In our environment, a plant gives oxygen (O2) and takes carbon-di-oxide (CO2) and human takes oxygen and gives carbon-di-oxide. With this Give and Take policy a balance is established in the ecosystems and thus how growth is possible for both trees as well as humans. In contrast, if plant stops giving oxygen, it is too obvious to know that existence of living being is not possible in our beautiful earth.

….Even in rags I am a god;
Fallen, I am divine;
High I triumph when down-trod,
Long I live when slain. (Life: Sri Aurobindo)

I have translated this poem. The original one is written by my mother Mrs. Labanya Nath in assamese which was already published in a magazine named 'Ananya' in  2000 and got prize for it on locally organized International Women's day competition. The writer was highly inspired by one the school story taught at sixth standard. The story was about a timid bird and out of her fear she never tried to fly. One day when everyone left keeping her alone thinking that she will die. Then she tried to fly her wings for the first time, keeping her eyes closed. She fly high and high but not opened her eyes. When she opened her eyes, she found that she is miles above the ocean..Like the same way the writer compares every woman with the bird of unlimited potential...

Women on thou spreaded hands!

When I want to say all that...
I have in my heart,
My words go numb.
Turning the pages of my heart,
I hold on...
Where shall I start?
How will I stitch my words together?
And how will I explain?
All that I have learnt from the wave of time.

I am born in me,
And I flourished in my own care.
Swallowing all the anguish and pain,
I have donated myself…
With both hands.
I have been wounded and disgraced,
And today I stand by my side with certainty...
To rescue myself.

Every ounce of courage and ability…
Stitched to my soul
Unleashing them spreading out hands,
And I add two more hands
As I broaden myself and stretch my hands…
On the horizon.
Breaking all barriers on the way
Time welcomes- this expedition!

The bird that doesn't open her wings for fear…
May her wings get-
Immense courage and infinite drift…
To fly high and high.
May she can fly across the ocean…
To accept the challenge of time!

*Thanks to my brother Ratul Nath for his encouragement and guidance.

Here is the original poem in Assamese....

                                                            In search of Life

Like the song goes.....”All my life I've been searching for something
Something never comes, never leads to nothing
Nothing satisfies but I am getting close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope
All night long I dream of the day
When it comes around, then it’s taken away.”

Most of us in this world are always in search of something. On the verge of our search we chase many things like money, power, name, fame, relationship, material comfort etc. But even if we get everything, it is ironic to know that our search never ends! Again we get involved for the next level of chasing and thus how life ends while chasing! In this process we do not know what we are searching for and this is why our search never ends.

The adverse affect of all these is that even if we get everything we want, we never are satisfied and ultimately in the long run we become empty inside. We become confused about our goal and lack energy to chase anything else and may go into a deep depression.

Then the question arises: what are we searching? and why are we searching?

The answer is very simple, we are searching for our self, our identity and we are searching because we have forgotten something that we have originally.

We are like someone who is lost in a 'mela' (carnival) and does not know his whereabouts. It is quite difficult for anyone to help him for his search and even for him it's equally difficult. Like the same way we also forget our identity and our address in course of time.

Every individual is an immortal soul which takes physical body in every birth for a certain period of time and plays different roles like mother, father, sister, brother etc. The soul is an energy which is originally pure, peaceful, blissful, happy and full of love. But today we all have forgotten these original qualities within ourselves and searching for love, peace and happiness from outside world. We forget that we are the soul and not the body, body is just a costume, which we change in every birth.

We, the souls are the children of GOD. GOD is the supreme energy, our absolute parent who loves us unconditionally. He is the ocean of love, bliss, peace, purity, happiness and power.

Now our search ends as we understood “Who we are?” and it’s time to realize and accept GOD’s unconditional love and bliss to emerge our original qualities and explore the unlimited happiness within…

We often confuse with our own man made vocabulary.e.g-just think about the terms ambition and the contentment; and if we try to implement it in our life at the same time it never justifies. We feel like its never possible at the same time. But in reality what I feel that we need both to live a normal or in other sense healthy life. Then it is very vital to know about ambition and contentment in a more clear way.
Ambition in broader sense the awareness and the curiosity of our mind which is a very normal nature of a human being since we born, but unfortunately many of us forget or loose it because of our object oriented life we are living. On the other hand the contentment means it is our inner happiness to be an honest, pure and a peaceful human being!!

Wings against the wind

Who am I?

One who never believe on destiny...
Instead like to live in hope,
That keeps me moving,
Makes me more alive!

With warm rays of sunshine,
 I tender my mind.
Every dawn I promise...
 To go ahead a mile!

I love without thinking of the blemish,
Deeply abhor the tears,
That live and learn...
Was born to shine!

Often in broken dreams,
A heart full of desires....
Burdens me,
And I feel a deep fear inside.
If I could throw my emotions in water,
I will let the world pass me by!

I am convinced....
Even if it baffled,
Never elude!
Despite the encumbrances,
Never lower my head!

I infest my worship 'mantras'.....
With the Red Rose I adore!
I have a dream to fly,
And still waiting for thou........
To fly thy wings with the zephyrs!
